Cities of Gold

It's a story of friendship, courage, adventure, and danger as three children - Estaban, Zia and Tao accompanied by Spanish Navigator Mendoza and his sailors Pedro and Sancho, go on a search for the legendary Mysterious Cities of Gold.  The original story was based loosely on Scott O Dell’s book The King’s Fifth and was made into a 39 part epic cartoon series in 1982 entitled "Mysterious Cities of Gold".

Since then, the series has become cult viewing all over the world with millions of fans.

Towards the end of 1998,  we produced a 19 episode radio version of the series which was first broadcast in 1999 and then again in 2001 and 2002.

I think that MCoG is THE best cartoon series ever made, given that it incorporates real places and historical figures into a fictional story. I have many memories of the show and was saddened when the show was taken off the air in 1990. Let's bring it back!

3pm on Channel 17 Nickelodeon - I would run home from the bus stop to park it infront of the TV to watch MCofG. I always looked forward to watching each episode and taped most of them. I was 12 at the time but the series had a great plot and animation for a cartoon series. I keep hoping to see it again on the cartoon network.

COMMENTS:

It was a diverse program but one that appealed to me as a young boy. The story held the mystery and the charactors were strong but the mood was set by the music. It never got dull and the program never lost its plot. We would talk about it always and even recently in South Africa, where I spent some time, they showed the first three episodes and I was once again hooked. It was taken off air and replaced with some simple childrens programme.

I never thought I would find web sites. I can only look forward to obtaining the video tapes and begin to relive the magic of, The Mysterious Cities of Gold.
