No Award for Random Vinyl Promo

The Sound of Sunday was up for an award on 13 April at the National Hospital Radio Awards.  The promo that was produced for the Random Vinyl feature was shortlisted in the Best Station Promotion award.

The feature, which asks someone at random to choose a random number from HRB’s vinyl library, started in 2019, although took an extended break during the pandemic due to the fact that we didn’t have a record player in our remote studio.

The promo may not have won an award, but lots more people were recorded choosing their random vinyl , including Voice of the Balls Alan Dedicoat, and these will be heard in the coming months.

Random Vinyl Promo Nominated for Award

The promo produced to promote our Random Vinyl feature has been nominated for an award.

Random Vinyl asks a different person each week to select a number at random from HRB’s vinyl library and then that track is played – whatever it might be.  Hospital staff and volunteers from other hospital radio stations have chosen numbers as well as people met during HRB’s various outside broadcasts.

The 1 minute long promo is shortlisted for the Best Station Promotion award at the National Hospital Radio Awards and is one of 4 nominations for HRB.  The winners will be announced on Saturday 13 April.

Big Christmas Show Launches Christmas on HRB

Christmas is well and truly under way on HRB with the traditional start a big success.

The HRB team were live around the wards on Sunday afternoon (10 December) pulling crackers with the staff and patients of the hospital.  They even met a patient who was 100 year old on that day and saw her letter from the King.

Meanwhile more staff were entered into the competition to win a family ticket to the Anvil’s Christmas panto.

Over 20 requests were played for those pulling the crackers.  Adrian on CCU won a goody bag courtesy of Morrisons in Basingstoke in the weekend prize draw and it was Alex who works at the hospital in Winchester who will be taking her family to see the panto next weekend.

Alan Fletcher (Karl Kennedy in Neighbours) and soul singer Alexander O’Neal also joined in the fun as special guests.

The show starts 3 weeks of festive shows on HRB.

Rain Won’t Stop The Sound of Sunday Summer Show

The final edition of the 2023 srries of The Sound of Sunday Summer Show is scheduled for Sunday 27 August, but unfortunately the great British summer weather intervened in the original plan.

It was due to be recorded at the Alton Village Fete event in Alton in July, but the weather was so bad that day that the event was postponed until August.  However, on the rearranged date, the weather also intervened and the event was cancelled.

So instead, the show went to Bishopswood Court in Tadley to talk to the residents and play their favourite music.

Hear the show on 27 August from 1.30pm.
